My childhood was very nomadic, living in a new place about every year or so, and I had to learn to adapt quickly to new situations. From my beginnings in the south , I was always observing my surroundings and compiling visual references.
My socioeconomic level forced me to be resourceful and creativity was encouraged, especially sewing. Early on I was entranced by fabric and textiles, and now print and pattern have become my ongoing obsession. My textile focus is splatter painting, discharge dyeing and marbling.
My years as an art teacher allowed me to see the imaginative way that children create without fear. I'm a daydreamer and I see the world through the eyes of my inner child. I love the expressive form of fashion and interiors, and have a special affinity for Scandinavian design. I sew and create almost every day, and I love to teach and inspire others to make things. I am now an 'empty nester' and live with my hilarious husband in middle America. We also collaborate on art and home decor projects together for our brand FORTRESSco.
