process

decided to work on this stag watercolor illustration for awhile today.  my first day off in 6 weeks.  Boy did I enjoy it.  Had dinner with my daughter, and the waitress asked if we wanted 2 checks.  They always ask that because I guess it seems like we are 2 friends having dinner, rather than mother / daughter.  Always a nice feeling when people think I'm younger than I am :)

I tried to add music to a video of me working on this, but haven't been able to figure out how to upload it yet.  oh the joys of technology.   enjoy!

dreaming...

I've been having a lot of vivid dreams lately, and feeling like it's not only my subconscious trying to work things out that I'm going through in my waking life, but also God speaking to me in this special, visual way.

Every time I have an intense or a recurring dream, I google the information from the dream and usually I can find symbolic meaning and come to some sort of conclusion about the meaning.

I have been thinking about doing a deer illustration recently, and kept thinking about a dream I had a few years ago about a multicolored deer.  I found a post from 2008 on my old Deciduous Soul blog, and it was so weird and wonderful to come across some of the forgotten information.  It amazes me how fast we forget things that we dream about, or things that happen in life in general.  Journaling is so good, not only for working things out in our own head, but for documenting experiences too.

I searched for a couple of scripture verses about deer:

Proverbs 5: 18,19

Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.  Rejoice in the wife of your youth.  19  She is a loving deer, a graceful doe.  Let her breasts satisfy you always.  May you always be captivated by her love.

Psalm 42:1

As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.

In my research I came across a lovely blog post about deer references found in the Bible:

It always amazes me how rich the word of God is, and how blessed I am that my art can be inspired by it.
